It is normal for there to be some tasks that we do not enjoy about our work. You may not like to prepare reports, attend 14 weekly meetings, or fill out that annoying Excel table the boss asks you for 3 times a month. These are things that, although they feel a little uncomfortable, are not a big burden. However, when the number of unwanted responsibilities exceeds those we do enjoy doing or are issues that make our existence bitter, then we must reflect on our situation. We spend too much of our lives at work not to feel satisfied with our daily tasks and not to experience the wonder of getting up motivated to go to work.

Sometimes, it may not be the nature of the work but the environment in which we find ourselves; or maybe the people (colleagues, supervisors) with whom we share day by day. Of course, we must be careful not to be very severe about what bothers us about these people, since we are all human beings; we are different, we have varied personalities, and we do not always think alike. For this reason, while it is true that we do not have to tolerate incorrect attitudes, it is also important to be fair about where the line between "I disagree with you" vs. "you are wrong and I am right" is drawn. We feel that the attack is personal when it really is a difference in perspective.

On the other hand, maybe what you feel is that there is no room to grow where you are, and you have set yourself some professional goals that you know will not bear fruit in your present job. In any of the above situations, are you going to sit idly by? Are you going to be just one more human being in this world that spends 30 or 40 years unhappy in a job that doesn't fulfill you, in an environment that negatively affects you, or settling for the status quo?

Get out of that so-called "comfortable” zone, which has no comfort at all, and take charge of your present work life and your professional satisfaction NOW. There is always an alternative. There's always a solution waiting for you to find it. That great saying that says: "Nothing lasts forever" can be taken in a pessimistic and sad way, or it can be seen as hope and a new opportunity to be happy. What do you decide?
